The St. Finbarr Conference became a part of the Naples District Council in 2010. Since then, our Conference has served God by helping those in need in our parish area.
We primarily serve those in need through home visits. During these home visits, we are better able to help our neighbors (as in the Good Samaritan) by bringing the love of God to them, more effectively assessing their situation, and determining what help we can offer to those facing evictions, loss of utilities, or other urgent needs. Through the Family Assistance Center on Mercantile Ave. we can provide food, vouchers to the SVdP Thrift Store for clothing and household items (thanks to your donations), and other assistance. Through these corporal works of mercy, we are following the guidance of Christ when He said, “What you do for the least of my brethren …”
Our conference also provides delivery drivers for the SVdP Meals on Wheels program which provides a daily hot meal for those who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. Frequently the best part of the service is any human contact for those who are homebound. Our rules require daily wellness checks consisting of at least a knock on the door to ensure everyone is OK. Drivers have instructions on who to contact if something is amiss.
We received our startup funds in 2010 through the generosity of other conferences, and we receive our ongoing funding through private donations from members of the parish. We are blessed to have been able to meet all appropriate requests for help since our inception.
IS GOD CALLING YOU?
Many of us in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul believe that we are so much more than volunteers. We are living a lifestyle which is devoted to growing in personal holiness. Through prayer, we seek guidance from Jesus Christ as to how we can do that by best serving those in need.
Our ministry is so much more than collecting and distributing food and clothes. With every home visit, we are challenged (with God’s guidance) to make good decisions and offer solutions that will provide hope, and help our neighbors improve their situation.
We sincerely invite you to prayerfully consider joining us. Your relationship with your parish family, and more importantly, God will steadily grow stronger and more secure.
