Choice Pantry

cropped-StVincentdePaulSocietylogo-use.jpgThe St. Vincent dePaul of Naples food pantry is located in the Family Assistance Center at 4451 Mercantile Avenue in Naples.  Our pantry is stocked with a variety of non-perishable food items, as well as hygiene items, bread and rolls, and when available, fresh dairy and produce.  The pantry is available to those in need from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, Monday through Thursday  (excluding holidays). Families in need may receive food once per calendar month.dsc0161

Since its inception, the Pantry has provided  bags of groceries to families and individuals that have a great need. Due to the differences in the cultural backgrounds of those we help, we have come to realize  that some of the food items we were giving were “foreign” and were not being used by all that we were helping.  Thus, in 2015, after careful consideration, we converted our pantry operation to a “choice” pantry.

Through this method, those we help are escorted through the pantry by Vincentian volunteers.  Based on family size and need, our friends can select those items that are useful to them.  Through analysis we have found this  an improved way of giving food to those in need as well as conserving our resources.

Throughout the year, our pantry is stocked and re-stocked with the generous donations of catholic church parishioners here in Naples.  When our inventory runs low we use funds generated from sales at our thrift stores or  gracious private donations to purchase the food and hygiene items necessary to meet the need.

We have devised a chart that is descriptive of the items most requested and most in need at our pantry:
